Do I need childcare experience to be an au pair?
Most families expect some experience (babysitting, teaching, sports coaching). A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required in most states and a clean Police Check is standard.
How much do au pairs earn weekly?
AUD $250–350/week pocket money plus room and full board. Experienced au pairs with a driving licence can negotiate AUD $400–500+/week.
Do au pair jobs count toward the 88 days?
No — childcare is not on the official list of "specified work". Au pair roles do not qualify for the second-year Working Holiday Visa extension.
How long do au pair contracts last?
Most families want a 3–12 month commitment. WHV holders are limited to 6 months per employer, so most contracts are capped at that.
